A remote arbitrary code execution vulnerability was identified in HP Network Node Manager i (NNMi) Software 10.00, 10.01 (patch1), 10.01 (patch 2), 10.10 using Java Deserialization.

Weakness

The product deserializes untrusted data without sufficiently ensuring that the resulting data will be valid.

Affected Software

Name Vendor Start Version End Version
Network_node_manager_i Hp 10.00 (including) 10.00 (including)
Network_node_manager_i Hp 10.01-patch1 (including) 10.01-patch1 (including)
Network_node_manager_i Hp 10.01-patch2 (including) 10.01-patch2 (including)
Network_node_manager_i Hp 10.10 (including) 10.10 (including)

Potential Mitigations

  • Make fields transient to protect them from deserialization.
  • An attempt to serialize and then deserialize a class containing transient fields will result in NULLs where the transient data should be. This is an excellent way to prevent time, environment-based, or sensitive variables from being carried over and used improperly.
