An issue was discovered in HDF5 through 1.12.0. A NULL pointer dereference exists in the function H5F_get_nrefs() located in H5Fquery.c. It allows an attacker to cause Denial of Service.
A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit.
