A flaw was found in servicemesh-operator. The NetworkPolicy resources installed for Maistra do not properly specify which ports may be accessed, allowing access to all ports on these resources from any pod. The highest threat from this vulnerability is to data confidentiality and integrity as well as system availability.

Weakness

The product initializes or sets a resource with a default that is intended to be changed by the administrator, but the default is not secure.

Affected Software

Name Vendor Start Version End Version
Openshift_service_mesh Redhat 2.0 (including) 2.0 (including)
Servicemesh-operator Redhat 2.0.5.1 (including) 2.0.5.1 (including)

Extended Description

Developers often choose default values that leave the product as open and easy to use as possible out-of-the-box, under the assumption that the administrator can (or should) change the default value. However, this ease-of-use comes at a cost when the default is insecure and the administrator does not change it.
