Veeam Backup and Replication 10 before 10.0.1.4854 P20210609 and 11 before 11.0.0.837 P20210507 mishandles deserialization during Microsoft .NET remoting.

Weakness

The product deserializes untrusted data without sufficiently ensuring that the resulting data will be valid.

Affected Software

Name Vendor Start Version End Version
Veeam_backup_&_replication Veeam 10.0 (including) 10.0.1.4854 (excluding)
Veeam_backup_&_replication Veeam 11.0 (including) 11.0.0.837 (excluding)

Potential Mitigations

  • Make fields transient to protect them from deserialization.
  • An attempt to serialize and then deserialize a class containing transient fields will result in NULLs where the transient data should be. This is an excellent way to prevent time, environment-based, or sensitive variables from being carried over and used improperly.
