The package shescape from 1.5.10 and before 1.6.1 are vulnerable to Regular Expression Denial of Service (ReDoS) via the escape function in index.js, due to the usage of insecure regex in the escapeArgBash function.
The product uses a regular expression with an inefficient, possibly exponential worst-case computational complexity that consumes excessive CPU cycles.
Name | Vendor | Start Version | End Version |
---|---|---|---|
Shescape | Shescape_project | 1.5.10 (including) | 1.5.10 (including) |
Shescape | Shescape_project | 1.6.0 (including) | 1.6.0 (including) |
Attackers can create crafted inputs that
intentionally cause the regular expression to use
excessive backtracking in a way that causes the CPU
consumption to spike.
