An issue has been discovered in GitLab CE/EE affecting all versions from 12.7 prior to 16.6.6, 16.7 prior to 16.7.4, and 16.8 prior to 16.8.1 It was possible for an attacker to trigger a Regular Expression Denial of Service via a Cargo.toml
containing maliciously crafted input.
The product uses a regular expression with an inefficient, possibly exponential worst-case computational complexity that consumes excessive CPU cycles.
Name | Vendor | Start Version | End Version |
---|---|---|---|
Gitlab | Gitlab | 12.7.0 (including) | 16.6.6 (excluding) |
Gitlab | Gitlab | 16.7.0 (including) | 16.7.4 (excluding) |

Attackers can create crafted inputs that
intentionally cause the regular expression to use
excessive backtracking in a way that causes the CPU
consumption to spike.
