Vendor: The Apache Software Foundation

Versions Affected: Apache OpenMeetings from 2.1.0 before 8.0.0

Description: Default clustering instructions at https://openmeetings.apache.org/Clustering.html  doesnt specify white/black lists for OpenJPA this leads to possible deserialisation of untrusted data. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 8.0.0 and update their startup scripts to include the relevant openjpa.serialization.class.blacklist and openjpa.serialization.class.whitelist configurations as shown in the documentation.

Weakness

The product deserializes untrusted data without sufficiently ensuring that the resulting data will be valid.

Affected Software

Name Vendor Start Version End Version
Openmeetings Apache 2.1 (including) 8.0.0 (excluding)

Potential Mitigations

  • Make fields transient to protect them from deserialization.
  • An attempt to serialize and then deserialize a class containing transient fields will result in NULLs where the transient data should be. This is an excellent way to prevent time, environment-based, or sensitive variables from being carried over and used improperly.
