ImageMagick is free and open-source software used for editing and manipulating digital images. Prior to versions 7.1.2-16 and 6.9.13-41, a heap use-after-free vulnerability in ImageMagicks MSL decoder allows an attacker to trigger access to freed memory by crafting an MSL file. This vulnerability is fixed in 7.1.2-16 and 6.9.13-41.
The product reuses or references memory after it has been freed. At some point afterward, the memory may be allocated again and saved in another pointer, while the original pointer references a location somewhere within the new allocation. Any operations using the original pointer are no longer valid because the memory “belongs” to the code that operates on the new pointer.
